IMET2000 Sponsors UK Working Visit of Dr Nafez Shaban and Dr Anas Abu Safa
As part of “ Supporting the Burns Service in Palestine “ Project , IMET2000 sponsored and organized a visit of Dr Nafez Shaban (Head of Burns Unit in Al Shifa Hospital, Gaza ) and Dr Anas Abu Safa (Head Rafidia Burns Unit ) to the UK. The visitors participated in a workshop of plastics and burns surgeons at the Royal Society of Medicine. This was a workshop on the best way to improve training in specialties such as burns management in developing countries whether by distance learning, locally delivered workshops, surgical 'missions’ combining service and training of local personnel or by running specialist courses in the UK and inviting participation.
The visitors have also met Prof. Colin Green, IMET2000 CEO , where they worked all day in Prof. Colin’s office on the draft protocols provided to by MAP. Each draft was dissected in details and this golden opportunity to bring experts from Gaza and the West Bank together in one room proved highly rewarding
The visit also included a meeting with MAP office officials in Islington . The team met Steve James , where they discussed the overall progress on the burns project.
Finally, Dr Nafez Shaban , Dr Anas Abu Safa and Prof. Colin participated as observers (plus limited hands on activity) in the EMSB workshop held in the Royal College of Surgeons, London. This proved an extremely intensive course and all three of them were impressed.
